Proud to Be an American This Memorial Day

There’s something special about Memorial Day in the Texas Hill Country.

Yes, it’s the start of summer, pool days, lake weekends, backyard barbecues, and time with family and friends. But beyond the celebrations, Memorial Day is a time to pause, reflect, and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives serving our country.

This time of year always reminds me how proud I am to be an American.

One of my favorite local traditions happens right here in the Lake Travis community. Every Memorial Day, the Lake Travis High School band organizes a fundraiser where families can sponsor American flags to be placed in their yards. Students and Parent volunteers deliver and install the flags throughout neighborhoods across the area, and the result is honestly incredible.

Driving through our communities and seeing street after street lined with American flags is something that never gets old. It’s one of those moments that instantly makes you feel connected to your neighbors, your community, and your country. The flags waving across front yards throughout Lakeway, Bee Cave, Rough Hollow, Spicewood, Sweetwater, Hudson Bend, Rocky Creek, and beyond create such a powerful reminder of unity, gratitude, and patriotism.

It’s more than just beautiful. It’s meaningful.

As a mom, a business owner, and someone who helps families put down roots here every day, I feel incredibly grateful to live in a community that still shows up for each other. A place where people support local schools, rally behind student programs, volunteer their time, and take pride in honoring the true meaning of Memorial Day.

In real estate, I often talk about helping people find “home,” but home is so much bigger than four walls. It’s the feeling you get when your neighbors wave as you drive by. It’s Friday night football games, community traditions, and streets lined with American flags on Memorial Day weekend.

That feeling is part of what makes this area so special.

This Memorial Day, I hope we all take a moment to remember the sacrifice behind the freedom we enjoy every day. To honor those who gave everything for our country. And to appreciate the communities, families, and traditions that make America such an extraordinary place to call home.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.
